An attorney for Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, who has been charged with killing 17 Afghan civilians in two villages, said Friday that the defense team is??facing an almost complete information blackout from the government,? which is having a ?devastating effect? on their investigation.

Bales, a 38-year-old father of two, is accused of creeping into the villages at night on March 11 and attacking the villagers. The Army has charged him with 17 counts of murder, six counts of attempted murder and six counts of assault. Nine children, four men and four women, were slain.

?We are facing an almost complete information blackout from the government which is having a devastating effect on our ability to investigate the charges preferred against our client,? his civilian attorney, John Henry Browne, said in a statement.?

Maj. Chris Ophardt, a spokesman for 1st Corps, Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, said the investigation was ongoing.

?The prosecution will provide the defense with evidence in accordance with the Rules for Courts-Martial and the Military Rules of Evidence. Within these guidelines the prosecution is and has been?communicating with the defense,? he said in an e-mail.?

Browne, who is in Seattle, was speaking about members of the defense team in Afghanistan. He said they had tried to interview injured civilians being treated at Kandahar Hospital but were denied access and told to coordinate with prosecutors. He said that the following day, the prosecution team interviewed the wounded, with defense counsel only later learning that they had been released from hospital and there was no contact information for them.

?These witnesses are now who knows where ? people just disappear into the countryside in Afghanistan,? he said later Friday at a press conference. ?They (prosecutors) actually promised us that if we sent people to Afghanistan ? that they would cooperate and make witnesses available for us, and they obviously violated that promise.?

Browne also said in the statement that his team was denied access to medical records of the wounded, making it ?even more impossible? to locate them, and that the prosecution was ?withholding the entire investigative file from the defense team.?

Afghan massacre: Sgt Bales case echoes loudly for ex-soldiers on hotline for vets

?The Army doesn?t have any requirement to provide evidence to the defense at this point, according to military rules governing courts-martial. The next stage of the legal process is the Article 32 hearing, akin to a civilian grand jury, and which is ?supposed to be a discovery tool for the defense,? Michael Navarre, an adviser at the National Institute of Military Justice and a former Navy prosecutor and defense counsel, told msnbc.com.

In general, most military prosecutors are cooperating with the defense and will provide some information -- though not everything -- prior to the Article 32 hearing to ensure it goes smoothly, he added, noting that some evidence may even be discovered after that proceeding.

?As a defense counsel, one of your jobs is to ? build a public record as to what the government?s doing during the course of their investigation and also to some degree build sympathy for your client,? he said. ?Given the seriousness and the gravity of the charges against his client, I would say it?s not uncommon to point out that the government isn?t being cooperative with your client in the investigation given the current public perception of his client.?

Browne said that though the defense team didn?t have the right to certain discovery materials until 30 days before the Article 32 hearing, he?d had better dealings in the past with prosecutors.

?We usually have the cooperation of prosecutors and they will give us information ahead of time just so we can be prepared and that?s just not happening in this case,? he said at the press conference. ?My gut, from a defense lawyer?s standpoint, is when the prosecutors are not cooperating there?s a reason, and that reason usually is because they don?t really have much of case.?

?If they want cooperation from us, they better start cooperating more,? he later added.

How Staff Sgt. Bales' lawyers are fighting for his life

Bales, of Bellevue, Wash., is being held at a U.S. military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He was on his fourth tour in a war zone since signing up for the Army after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. He had been in Iraq on his previous tours, during which he suffered a foot injury and a traumatic brain injury in a vehicle rollover, media reports say.

Browne said Bales was ?holding up,? communicating with his wife, being treated well. He said Bales had seen a chaplain.

Some military law experts interviewed by msnbc.com said they expect?the defense to mount a legal pincer attack, in which Bales? attorneys may try to win acquittal by attacking the evidence but have a fallback position aimed at winning a lesser sentence than the death penalty -- which Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has said could be sought in this case.

That fallback position could be diminished mental capacity, which they may attribute to his reported combat injuries and mental trauma.

For alleged Afghan shooter, death penalty unlikely

U.S. military officials told NBC News on Friday that the Army was preparing to conduct a psychological exam of Bales. The exam, known as the ?706 Board,? is considered routine in such cases and will include a team of psychiatrists.

It's likely Bales would remain at Fort Leavenworth and the board doctors would travel to him, though a final decision has not been made.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The arguments are done and the case has been submitted, as Chief Justice John Roberts says at the end of every Supreme Court argument. Now the justices will wrestle with what to do with President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. They have a range of options, from upholding the law to striking it down in its entirety. The court also could avoid deciding the law's constitutionality at all, although that prospect seems remote after this week's arguments.

A look at six potential outcomes, from the simplest to the most complicated possible rulings:

Q. What if the Supreme Court upholds the law and finds Congress was within its authority to require most people to have health insurance or pay a penalty?

A. A decision in favor of the law would end the legal fight and allow the administration to push forward with implementing its provisions over the next few years, including the insurance requirement, an expansion of Medicaid and a ban on private insurers' denying coverage to people with pre-existing health problems.

The political wrangling, however, probably would continue as candidates for Republican presidential nomination and lesser offices are calling for repeal of the law.

Q. What if, on the other hand, the court strikes down the entire law?

A. That would kill a costly new federal entitlement before it has a chance to take root and develop a constituency of beneficiaries and supporters, namely more than 30 million people who are supposed to wind up with health insurance because of the law.

In addition, some parts of the law already are in effect and would be rolled back. One popular provision allowing young adults to stay on their parents' insurance until age 26 has added nearly 2.5 million people to the coverage rolls, at no cost to taxpayers.

But there's no escaping America's double-barreled problem of excruciatingly high health care costs and many uninsured people, more than 50 million according to the latest estimates.

Whether it's dealing with the federal deficit, retirement security for seniors or even the Pentagon budget, elected officials would still have to confront health care at nearly every turn.

Congress would get to roll the ball up the hill again.

Q. What happens if the court strikes down the individual insurance requirement, but leaves the rest of the Affordable Care Act in place?

A. Knocking out the requirement that Americans carry insurance would not be the end of Obama's health care overhaul. There's a lot more in the 900-plus pages of the law.

But it would make the complicated legislation a lot harder to carry out, risking more complications for a U.S. health care system already seen as wasteful, unaffordable and unable to deliver consistently high quality.

Ten million to 15 million uninsured people who would have gotten coverage under the law could be left out.

The cost of individually purchased private health insurance would jump. That would make it more expensive for the government to subsidize premiums, although millions of middle-class people would still be entitled to such assistance under the law's remaining provisions.

If the individual mandate is struck, the law's Medicaid expansion would still cover millions more low-income people, mainly childless adults.

And a host of other mandates would stay in place. Starting in 2014, medium-sized and large employers would be hit with fines for not providing coverage to their workers.

Insurance companies would be required to accept people with pre-existing medical problems, no longer allowed to cherry-pick the healthy to keep costs down. They would also be barred from imposing higher premiums on people in poor health and limited in what they could charge older adults.

If that happens, premiums in the individual health insurance market would jump anywhere from 10 percent to 30 percent, according to various forecasts from economists.

Experts debate whether or not such a cost spike would trigger the collapse of the insurance market for individuals and small businesses ? or just make coverage even more expensive than it already is.

"Without a mandate the law is a lot less effective," said MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, who advised the Obama administration and, earlier on, then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who put such an insurance mandate in that state's health care law. "The market will not collapse, but it will be a ton more expensive and cover many fewer people."

Q. What if the court strikes down the mandate and invalidates the parts of the law that require insurance companies to cover people regardless of medical problems and that limit what they can charge older people?

A. Many fewer people would get covered, but the health insurance industry would avoid a dire financial hit.

Insurers would be able to continue screening out people with a history of medical problems, such as diabetes patients or cancer survivors.

That would prevent a sudden jump in premiums. But it would leave consumers with no assurance that they can get health insurance when they need it, a major problem the law was intended to fix. Other economically developed countries guarantee health insurance for their citizens.

A related requirement limits premiums charged to older adults. Currently people in their late 50s and early 60s can face premiums as much as six or seven times higher than those charged to 20-year-olds. The law says insurers may charge older adults no more than three times what they charge younger ones.

Administration lawyers say the insurance requirement goes hand in hand with the coverage guarantee and cap on premiums, and have asked the court to get rid of both if it finds the mandate to be unconstitutional.

Q. What happens if the court throws out only the expansion of the Medicaid program?

A. Throwing out the expansion would severely limit the law's impact because roughly half of the more than 30 million people expected to gain health insurance under the law would get it through the expansion of Medicaid, the federal-state health insurance program for low-income people.

The law would effectively bring under Medicaid everyone making up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. That works out to about $15,400 for an individual, $30,650 for a family of four. Most of those who would be added to the Medicaid rolls are low-income adults without children.

But a potentially sizable number of those low-income people might still be eligible for government-subsidized ? though probably more expensive ? private insurance under other provisions of the law. Private coverage will probably be more expensive for taxpayers to subsidize than Medicaid.

States suing to overturn the federal law argue that the Medicaid expansion comes with so many strings attached it amounts to an unconstitutional power grab by Washington, reaching directly into the wallets of state taxpayers.

The administration counters that the federal government is paying all of the initial cost of the expansion and 90 percent in perpetuity, well above what Washington contributes for regular Medicaid. Moreover, when Congress created Medicaid in 1965 it also served notice on the states that program rules could change in the future. This is only the latest of many such changes.

The Supreme Court took on this issue even though none of the district or appeals courts that heard health care lawsuits had any problem with the Medicaid expansion.

"We don't have any lower court that has struck down this (Medicaid) provision, so there is no precedent from the lower courts on how to handle it," said Diane Rowland, a Medicaid expert with the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. "They all upheld it."

Q. What happens if the court decides that the constitutional challenge is premature?

A. The wild card, and least conclusive outcome in the case, probably also is the least likely, based on what justices said during the arguments. No justice seemed inclined to take this path, which involves the court's consideration of a technical issue. The federal appeals court in Richmond, Va., held that the challenge to the insurance requirement has to wait until people start paying the penalty for not purchasing insurance. The appeals court said it was bound by the federal Anti-Injunction Act, which is intended to facilitate tax collections and keep the government operating. That law says federal courts may not hear challenges to taxes, or anything that looks like a tax, until after they are paid.

It remains at least possible that if the justices have trouble coming together on any of the other options they could simply decide not to decide the big issues.

Although the administration says it doesn't want this result, such a decision would allow it to continue putting the law in place and force postponement of any subsequent challenge until more of the benefits are being received. On the other hand, Republicans might have more ammunition to press for repeal of the law in the meantime.

* Seventhly, make the necessary connections using the wires each connecting with the actuator and the remote control;

* Lastly, put your LCD on this gliding rails and screw the plywood box to the accessories, you choose to attach with and simply plug-in your TV actuator with the wall socket.

Now, gently press the LCD/LED TV remote and watch your television rise. This is how you can construct your own TV lift cabinetry.

Speaking of data breaches, the University of Tampa reported that it?mistakenly exposed information on 30,000 individuals for 8 months due to a server error and the UK-based Student Loans Company?copped to leaking 8,000 customer email addresses. As for things that got attacked this week, a?Saudi hacking group claimed to steal data on 400,000 Israelis from the Israeli sports website One,?S3rver.exe defaced the website of the International Police Associate of Australia, and BlackJester has electronically?taken a Qwest data center server hostage so that the company will contact him about its vulnerabilities. Not too long ago BlackJester walked into a UN office to report vulnerabilities in the organization?s website. Reporting vulnerabilities is one thing, taking a server hostage is a different beast altogether. Western Cape, South Africa (CNN) -- South Africa has an energy deficit on its hands. Too many people want fuel for their cars and electricity for their homes, and the country is struggling to keep up with demand.

To help ease this perceived crisis the big companies want to start drilling for natural gas using a controversial drilling technique called fracking. Under the plans the drilling will be done in one of the most remote and beautiful places in South Africa, the Karoo.

Fracking has caused controversy and protests across the globe, and South Africa is no exception. To release the natural gas the companies drill down and sideways into a rock called shale, and pump large quantities of water and other chemicals to release the gas.

Anti-fracking campaigners warn that this could have an irrevocable impact on this semi-desert region.

Jonathan Deal has written a book on the Karoo and he is now leading the campaign against fracking.

"It is a special place, it is irreplaceable" he told CNN, just outside the town of Sutherland in the Karoo. "My concern is that we would make decisions chasing fossil fuels in this country where this generation is making a decision that is going to affect unborn generations who would not be happy about it, when we should perhaps be pursuing renewable energies or looking at different energy mixes."

Muna Lakhani from Earthlife Africa warns that water in the area could become contaminated as a result of fracking. "The chances of damaging aquifers is very high and South Africa is a water scarce country," he told CNN in Cape Town.

"The Karoo happens to be the driest part of our country so to threaten our water supply with a system that uses massive amounts of water that can never be cleaned up, that contains toxic chemicals, seems to be insanity of the first order," he added.

Shell South Africa, one of the main companies lobbying to begin fracking, denies there is any "insanity." Bonang Mohale, the company's chairman, told CNN's Robyn Curnow, that: "It is possible to have responsible fracking with respect to the environment and to the people of the Karoo."

"The first commitment that we made was never to compete with the people of the Karoo for their water needs in this pristine and ecologically sensitive area so we, in the initial stages, certainly when we drill the first well, bring portable water in from outside."

"The risks to the environment are well understood, well articulated and I think they can be totally and utterly mitigated, especially the issues of water contamination, the aquifers, and the scarcity of water."

Sutherland is a small town on the edge of the area that could be affected by fracking. It is so small you can stand on one side of the town and see straight down the main road to the other side. "In the ten years we have been here I can say that it developed very much into a tourist attraction. We are just very concerned that if fracking does take place, there might be a boom for a very short period but what is it going to be like after that?"

According to a recent report by a South African think tank, paid for by Shell, the whole of South Africa and towns like Sutherland will get an economic boost if fracking goes ahead.

"The successful development of the shale gas reserves would result in approximately $11 billion to $30 billion contribution to the South African GDP", Rob Jeffrey from Econometrix told CNN. "In South African terms that is between three and 10% of South Africa's GDP, it is enormous. By the same token there would be a significant impact on employment."

But others believe Econometrix's employment figures have been exaggerated.

"The aspect of the report that I most disagree with deals with the jobs numbers", Peet Du Plooy, an economist with the Trade and Industrial Policy Strategies told CNN.

"The report cites 700,000 jobs, which is more jobs than the entire mining sector combined. I can understand the motivation to cite such a high number but I don't think it is realistic."

Discard or box up objects around you that remind you of your ex and trigger negative feelings. These might be anything from a dress he bought you, to photographs, to furniture. You'll find them in your house, your car and even your office. Freshen up your surroundings with items that you love and are meaningful to you. This simple technique makes you feel better because it gives your brain the message of positive change all around you.

Meet the new you.
After the initial shock waves pass, spend some time in self-reflection. What was your role in the relationship? What's been your pattern, and how would you change it? The divorced spouses in my study who were most successful in finding a great match the second time around changed something significant about themselves -- for instance, they lost weight, they went to a therapist, they quit smoking or they stopped working 60 hours a week.
