Scarlett Johansson Is Her

In the latest Hollywood switcheroo to come to light, Vulture reports that Scarlett Johansson has nabbed a role once slated for Samantha Morton ("Cosmopolis," "John Carter").

"Her," the mysterious new film by Spike Jonze that stars Joaquin Phoenix as a man who falls in love with his Siri-like operating system, has a Nov. 20 release date from Warner Bros. -- and not much else, aside from confirmation that Amy Adams and Rooney Mara are also in the cast. However, Vulture noticed that Johansson was included in a recent cast breakdown, the first time her name had appeared in conjunction with the movie. They reached out to Jonze, who in turn revealed that Johansson had replaced Morton as the seductive voice of the operating system.

In an email to Vulture, Jonze explains, "Samantha was with us on set and was amazing. It was only in post-production, when we started editing, that we realized that what the character/movie needed was different from what Samantha and I had created together. So we recast and since then Scarlett has taken over that role." It sounds like the split was amicable. At the end of the email, Jonze reiterates how much he appreciated Morton and how hopeful he was that they'll end up doing something in the future.

"I love Samantha. I've been friends with her forever and I hope we make lots of things together in the future," Jonze writes.

We can't wait to finally get a look at "Her," no matter what she sounds like.
