It's time once again for the annual lineup announcement for the Austin City Limits music festival, the increasingly popular fall gathering in Texas that last year delivered new music from Coldplay and a stirring performance by Kanye West.

Last year, festival organizers went outside the box with their preannouncement teasers and unveiled a few noteworthy players via a series of lo-fi scratch-off cards and their "ACL Lineup Lottery." The scratch-off cards proved to be such a big hit last year that the fest's organizers once again teased their lineup with the lottery, which the crafty folks at Brooklyn Vegan used to reveal that Steve Earle, Delta Spirit, Punch Brothers, Quiet Company and LP would be a part of the 130-band lineup. Scratch-and-win tickets were given to 28 local businesses to distribute to fans and flew out of stores within hours of their announcement.

Without further ado, the headliners for the 11th year of the laidback Texas fest include: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the Black Keys, Jack White, Florence and the Machine and the Avett Brothers. Other key acts to catch from Zilker Park in October are: the Roots, Iggy & the Stooges, the Shins, Weezer, Gotye and the Civil Wars.

The ACL fest has made a point to highlight the diversity of its bands, which hail from all over the world: Gotye (Australia), M83 (France), Metric (Canada), Die Antwoord (South Africa), Kimbra (New Zealand), Los Campesinos! (Wales), Jovanotti (Italy), Sonámbulo (Costa Rica) and others.

ACL 2012 will also feature a few favorite alumni from the past 10 years like Tegan and Sara, Thievery Corporation, Andrew Bird, Gary Clark Jr., Delta Spirit, Steve Earle, Old 97's and the 11th consecutive appearance of Asleep at the Wheel.

The 2012 Austin City Limits Music Festival runs October 12-14 in Zilker Park. For more information, visit the fest's website, www.aclfestival.com.
