Shane Watson gets Ian Chappell?s backing ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part II ? November 15, 2012

Former Australian great Ian Chappell, on Thursday urged the Cricket Australia selectors to pick veteran all-rounder Shane Watson for the second Test against South Africa regardless of whether he can bowl or not.

Watson, 31, missed the opening Test of the three-match series at Gabba, nursing a recurring calf-injury, which he had picked during a Sheffield Shield match against Queensland earlier this month. Though the Queenslander has started batting and running again, he has been told to prove his fitness as a bowler as well, if he is to make the cut for the second Test, starting at the Adelaide Oval on November 22.

However, Chappell, a former Test captain and top-order batsman, said that Watson has proven himself as a specialist batsman of late and the selectors should pick him on his batting skills.

"If Watson is fit to play and they don't pick him as a batsman, I find that strange. He has proven himself as a batsman," Chappell told the Australian Associated Press?(AAP) on Thursday. "You want to pick the best team to give you the best chance to win the game and that means Shane Watson should be there, whether he can bowl or not," insisted the cricketer turned commentator.

Out of form Australian opener David Warner on Thursday shrugged off suggestions of being under pressure after an extended lean patch, spanning over last ten months.

The belligerent opener, who smashed a blistering 180 against India at Perth earlier this year, has been struggling to find form since then. He has not scored a century and has only one fifty to his name in the last nine innings. However the left-handed top-order batsman said that he was not under pressure to get some runs on the board, adding that he was not bothered about his personal achievements as long as the team was doing well.

"I'm feeling good, I'm nice and refreshed. I'm ready to go again,? said Warner. ?As long as we are winning games and we are on the way to becoming number one... that's all that counts,? he added further.

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram feels the team with better batting will win the ongoing four-match Test series between India and England, which got underway in Ahmedabad today, November 15, 2012.

?I firmly believe the team with the better batting will clinch the series,? said Akram in an interview with?ESPNSTAR?on the eve of the first Test. The legendary left-arm pacer, however refused to predict a scoreline for the enthralling series.
